Let us perfect your smile
Durham Dental Dental Crown

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a work of art to be done by a sculptor. Anybody can make a clay pot. But it takes Michelangelo to make the statue of David. Do not go to any dentist to have your dental crowns created. Here at Durham Dental we create your dental crowns from scratch. We have a state of the art facility that can take care of your smile. But for those who wonder exactly what a dental crown is, let us explain.

The crown is the portion of the tooth that protrudes from the gums. It is the portion of the tooth that is visible to the naked eye. It is made of a material called enamel which is what gives your teeth its durable properties as well as their white hue. This makes the crown one of the most important properties of your mouth. Because the crown is the most aesthetically visible portion of your smile. In essence the combination of all of your teeth's crowns creates your smile. This is a portion of your oral health that you want to take particular care of because the smile can affect social situations and how we interact with other people. More job opportunities could be missed as well if you have issues with your smile. That is why it is imperative to take care of your teeth in the long run.

If you crown is violated by tooth decay, trauma, autoimmune disease, as well as other causes then do not hesitate to see your dentist. The dentist can create a new prosthetic dental crown to supplement your tooth.

Our dentists are adept at creating dental crowns and have been doing so for decades. We have a fully stocked laboratory that has been creating dental crowns for years. Our staff has been hired to take care of dental crowns and other dental prosthetics. We have dental lab technicians that are skilled, with a vision of your smile perfection. How is a dental crown procedure performed?

The dental crown can be performed by a skilled dentist who understand the fundamental anatomy of your teeth. First the mouth must be assessed with a comprehensive physical exam. This will assess whether the tooth in question is a viable tooth, needs to be extracted, or will need to have a dental crown put on it instead.
Once it is deemed worthy of a dental crown then the dentist will alert the patient and then begin performing the procedure. The procedure involves drilling so local anesthesia will be necessary throughout the dental visit. If the patient chooses they can also opt for sedation dentistry therapy which could result in a relaxed and comforting mental status while the procedure is performed.
The tooth is first drilled down to make room for a proper dental crown fitting.  The tooth is essentially prepared so that a dental crown can be made and fitted over the top of the tooth. The dentist uses a drill to remove the enamel necessary to fit the dental  crown.
After using the dental drill the dentist can take an impression of the tooth using dental casting material. After an impression is made of the tooth the dentist can now assess the anatomy of the oral cavity and fashion the perfect dental crown.
Here at our Durham Dental office we have a fully stocked laboratory that has top of the line equipment made specifically for dental crown creation and placement.
We also have a Cerec machine which is able to create your dental crown with complete knowledge of your tooth anatomy as well as perfection measured in millimeters of length. This makes for the most comfortable and aesthetically pleasing dental crown that can be the centerpiece of your smile.
We can then fit the dental crown that same day using our efficient practices. Do not hesitate. Call us now if you need your dental crown to be done the same day.
